Growing up as a Christian (despite not being born again until i was 22), I always had the notion that fortune-tellers are full of crap. I can't believe that lowly human beings can see what God has in mind, and even though I sometimes read astrology just for fun, i never really cared about it. I remember reading a positive prediction just before I signed up for the job i have just left, and look where I ended. Anyway...today my parents went to Chinatown to look for some traditional Chinese medicine, and when they got back my mom told me something funny (and not a bit creepy). They happened to pass a fortune-teller who tried his best to persuade my dad to let him see his fortune, and even though I'm often at odds with my dad, I had to applaud him for not succumbing to the temptation. The fortune-teller didn't give up though and looked at my dad's nose and told him that he didn't have a very lucky life, that he's destined to be a teacher all his life. My jaw literally dropped. The fortune-teller proceeded to see my mom's face and told her that she was a bit better, but that even though she had done good to others all her life, she would never be repaid for what she has done. This is kinda true also, with one of the people who never repaid her being my dad.
Anyway, it got me thinking. If fortune-tellers are full of crap, then how did that man guess my dad's occupation so precisely? And how was he able to know what's going on in my parents' lives? I guess I have to accept the idea that some people do have extra abilities to see what is going on in people's lives just by looking at their faces. Then I wonder what the fortune-teller will see in me. Will he see my future as a mess like what my cowardly heart often tells me? Will he tell me that, like my dad, I'm going suffer hardship in my whole life? I have heard stories of people who lived in mediocrity for generations, and I wonder if God already has it fixed for some people no matter how great their faith is. Two days ago, I held on to the belief that my life will change if I trust Him to take the wheel and believe He'll take me somewhere better, but now I wonder if my life will stay the same and the only thing that changes is my attitude to it. After all, God's definition of what is "good" isn't always the same with ours.
I can only hope that it isn't true. That God will bless the lives of the people who walk in His words and His path that they can become a living testimony to others and encourage people that He knows what is best for us.

Fortune tellers are not full of crap, but their information does not come from their own knowledge and it does not come from God, it comes from Satan and his ilk. The Bible tells us this. It also tells us to stay away from these people so kudos to your parents for not giving in. Also, because Satan's demons can only know what they see around the world, they can know things that happen but not what people are thinking (they can't get inside a Christian's head), and they don't know the future, only God does. But, because they are more intelligent (way more) than humans, they can make very good guesses about future events based on past and present ones. Don't let this freak you out too much; they have power but it's where it comes from that makes them something we should stay far away from.
