Why time always flies when you're having fun?

Whenever I and my colleagues have a hard, long week, we always joke that the next day is Friday, consoling (or rather deluding) ourselves that weekend is just around the corner. Unfortunately, it never makes time run faster. Or, in my case now, slower.

This year-end vacation, like any other vacation, rushes by so quickly. It's been four days since Christmas and next Monday I'll already be back at work. I've tried to savor every minute, trying to make it last as long as possible, but hours just fly by. It's like trying to grasp something that keeps wanting to slip out of your hands, and pretending that it has just begun doesn't help.

I haven't been doing much in the past week except catching up with sleep, finishing the translation of the fiction book I've abandoned for the past couple of months and watching some DVDs. Christmas Eve and Christmas Day weren't particularly fun since I didn't sleep well for some reason and didn't have the energy to do anything, even watching movies. It's strange, but I find the days leading to the holiday more exciting than the holiday itself, since you had something to anticipate then. I wish the Twilight movie had been released a bit later in the month so we could have something to look forward to.

Anyway, this made me realize that I don't like unproductive free time as much as no free time. Which is why I'm still undecided as to whether I want to discontinue my contract with this company. I don't have the most enjoyable time here, but I've been through months of unemployment and I'm not sure if that's a better option.

Quite the dilema. I don't like a lot of free time either unless I have ways to fill it, which I usually do.
